on the 1st of the month jackson turned 8 months old.  in other words, this post is extremely overdue. 

so much has changed in the past few weeks.  the biggest change in jackson is that he is crawling!  and by crawling i mean he is all over the place!  jackson really learned to crawl at about 7 1/2 months.  he has also started pulling up to his knees (on seemingly everything in sight).  he even pulls up to his feet to play on a table-top toy.

we really enjoy watching jackson play.  he enjoys digging through his baskets of toys and taking things out.  when i’m in the kitchen he plays with spatulas and random kitchen objects.  jackson is on his way to learning to clap and wave.  he enjoys it when i sing the itsy-bitsy-spider and count on my fingers.  his favorite song is still “5 little speckled frogs”.  jackson really enjoys reading books, we normally read Goodnight Moon before bed.  it is a joy when he reaches for me, “hugs” me, and “kisses” me. 

while we were at the beach he got his first fever, which lasted about a day.  but we did learn that jackson likes to take medicine! 

with jackson’s new skills has introduced a new season of parenting.  we have had to begun really teaching him “no”.  i have to say its been a somewhat emotional transition for me.  i worry that I won’t be up to the task of having to discipline my son.  i want so badly to teach him well.  it is somewhat bittersweet to see my baby (who is still very much a baby) growing up.  everyone told us that time would fly, and i’m amazed at how it has.

(if you notice, jackson has a line down his forehead in these pictures.  he crawled into the pantry door as i was opening it.  he falls and gets bumps and bruises everyday.)

last week i found jackson sitting up in his crib after his nap.  and i’ve found him the same way ever since. 

this sweet little baby used to always just lay down and go to sleep in his crib.  now, no matter how tired he is, i put him into the crib and he uses the bars on the crib to pull up on his knees and reach for me through the bars and cry.  he cries really hard.  boy can he make this poor mommy’s heart hurt!

i still have a little bit of a cold but i feel sooo much better.

on father’s day, i still wasn’t feeling great so jackson and i stayed home from church.  ironic because on mother’s day travis was sick.  here are father and son on travis’ day:

in other news,

jackson started early crawling last week and pulling up onto his knees.  he can move around but he isn’t super coordinated or quick…yet.  im adjusting to having to really watch him.  not that i ignored him before but ill walk in the other room or even start reading something and before i know it he is finding a cable he wants to taste or something like that.  babyproofing is going to be quite a job!  it is fun though to seem him discover new things.  he is well on his way to being into everything!

our jackson is 7 months old today!  jackson continues to be a very happy and sweet baby boy.  he is eating a couple meals of solids a day.  (i have been rather slow with this but we’re starting to pick up the pace).  so far he has only eaten rice cereal, sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, and applesauce.  (ha, when i see it typed out i kinda feel bad for the kid – how boring!)

jackson has not one but two teeth!  they came in together.  he sits up like a champ and is very content to sit and play with his toys.  its really fun to watch him really entertain himself and learn how to do more and more with his hands.  he loves hands by the way, seeing us wave or tap our fingers.

jackson is doing great with sitting and balance.  but of course he has his falls and surprises us by being unfazed by it.

he continues to adore porkchop.

jackson is making more noises.  the most discernable noises that he makes are ”baa” , ”maa”, and “gaa”.  He moves and blows his lips a lot, especially in the morning.  he waves his arms around like crazy, especially when he is making noise.

and by the way, this month during our photo shoot, he was all over the place!  I think that one day he’s just going to wake up and start crawling!

jackson got worse. (with the croup.  it sounds like a disease you would have in the 1700s.  the croup, the plague…)

this was our first experience with a sick baby.  not fun.  but he was such a sweetie even when he wasn’t feeling well.
